Supreme council for Environment is established in 1997 under presidency of Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah (May Allah Bless him and Keep him) Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and head of Supreme Council for Environment at this time.
In 2003, Sheikh Jaber Al Mubarak Al Hamad AL Sabah (May Allah bless him) prime deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense commissioned the presidency of Supreme Council for Environment till date.
The most important issues that discussed in meetings of Supreme Council for Environment during the previous years, are the following:
1- Sebia Bridge
2- The capacity of Judicial officers of Authority employees and Executive Regulations.
3- Remove estimated and unauthorized attendances in John Kuwait (Kuwait Zone).
4- Fish farms and moving them outside John.
5- Remove handicrafts exists on Aeisherj coast.
6- Natural reserves (protected area)
7- Uplifting and Pumping station in Meshref Plant.
8- Damaged ships and polluted soils in University Coast.
9- Strategy for qualifying and protecting John Kuwait (Kuwait Zone)
10- Qualify filling sites and install burners and recycling wastes (solid, fluid and constructional wastes).
11- Filling sites of Asbestos Pipes.
12- Medical burners (General Authority of Environment- Ministry of Health)
13- Problem of Ali Sabah Al Salem District (Om Al Hayman), Western Sheiba Factories and Abdullah Port.
14- Housing some industries in Sabhan and Western Sheiba Region in collaboration with private sector.
15- Establish fourth refinery in (Ras Al Zour).
Whether the most important topics discussed in meetings of Supreme Council for Environment during 2010and they received decrees and recommendations are the following:
1- Uplifting station in Meshref Plant.
Council recommended to coordinate and follow with Committee of qualifying waste filling sites in council of Ministers (tri-committee) and recommended with the necessity of visiting an international team specialized in making surveying study and estimate the position in order to avoid any future health harms.
2- Current environmental position in Ali Sabah Al Salem Region (Om Al Hayman),

Upon reviewing the Supreme Council for Environment on the reports of General Authority of Environment about the current environmental position in southern region of state (Om AL Hayman), it decided to close some factories as they are not committed and not complying with its requirements and environment standards as the General Authority for Environment performs the following procedures in order to improve the environmental position as following:
3- Regulation of personnel affairs of General Authority of Environment and specializations of organizational units in order to determine the financial cadre.
4- Current environmental position in Aiesherj Region:
Supreme Council for Environment decided to remove all handicrafts and industrial facilities existed on Doha Coast (Aieshrej), as the general Authority of Environment performs the following procedures:
5- Current environmental position concerning the Ghazali Drain.
